一、so…that引导结果状语从句,意为“如此……以至……”,其中so是副词,常修饰形容词或副词。使用时应注意以下几点:

1. 引导结果状语从句时,如果so前面是系动词be, become, feel等,so后面一般跟形容词;如果so前面是其他动词,那么so后面跟副词。如:

She was so happy that she danced. 她高兴得跳起舞来。

He ran so fast that I couldn’t catch up with him. 他跑得太快,以至我跟不上他。

2. 在某些情况下,so…that结构可以与too…to或enough to结构相互转换。

⑴so…that与too…to的转换

当that引导的从句为否定式时,若从句主语与主句主语相同,so…that结构可转换为too…to结构;若从句主语与主句的主语不同,so…that结构要转换为too…for sb. to结构。如:

He is so young that he can’t go to school.

→He is too young to go to school.

他太年幼了,还不能上学。

The box is so heavy that he can’t lift it.

→The box is too heavy for him to lift.

这只盒子太重了,他举不动。

⑵so…that与enough to的转换

①当that引导的从句为肯定式,若从句主语与主句主语相同,so…that结构可转换为enough to结构;若从句主语与主句主语不同,so…that结构可转换为enough for sb. to结构。如:

Millie is so old that she can go to school.

→Millie is old enough to go to school.

米莉年龄足够大,能够上学。

The box is so light that the child can lift it.

→The box is light enough for the child to lift.

那只盒子很轻,那孩子能够举起它。

②当that引导的从句为否定式时,若从句主语与主句主语相同,so…that结构可转换为enough to的否定结构;若从句主语与主句主语不同,so…that结构可转换为enough for sb. to的否定结构。需要注意的是,转换后的形容词或副词要用其相应的反义词。如:

The man is so old that he can’t go to work.

→The man isn’t young enough to go to work.

那男人太老了,以至不能够去工作。

The desk is so heavy that I can’t move it.

→The desk isn’t light enough for me to move.

那张课桌太沉重,以至我不能搬动它。

二、so that既可引导目的状语从句,也可引导结果状语从句,可以由以下几点进行区分:

1. 当表达“为了……”、“以便……”的含义时,引导的是目的状语从句;当表达“以至于……”、“因此”的含义时,引导的是结果状语从句。如:

If you do know, answer in a loud enough voice so that all the class may hear. 如果你的确知道,应大声回答,以便让全班同学都可以听见。

It rained hard the day before yesterday, so that she had to stay at home. 前天雨下得很大,因此她只好呆在家里。

2. 当从句的谓语动词有情态动词can, could, may, might, should等时,是目的状语从句;当从句里没有情态动词,且谓语动词是一般现在时、一般过去时或现在完成时等时态时,引导的是结果状语从句。如:

We stopped at Salt Lake City so that we could visit the monument to seagulls. 我们在盐湖城逗留,为了可以参观为海鸥修的纪念碑。

They have walked a long distance so that they are all tired. 他们走了很长的路,所以都很累。

3. 当so that之前有逗号时,引导的是结果状语从句;反之,引导的是目的状语从句。如:

You didn’t plan your revision well, so that you didn’t pass the exam. 你没有好好地按计划复习,结果你没考及格。

The teacher must speak slowly so that the students may understand him. 那位老师必须讲得慢些,以便所有的学生可以理解。

谈谈as引导的状语从句 第3篇

【关键词】 as 状语从句 复合句

一、as引导一个时间状语从句,相当于when, while(当……的时候)。as在这种情况下表达两层意思。

1.主句谓语动词所表示的动作在从句谓语动词所表示的动作完成之前发生。例如:

As I left the house, I remembered the key. 离开房子时,我记得带钥匙。

2.主句谓语动词和从句谓语动词表示的是两个平行的动作。例如:

As he talked on, he got more and more excited.他谈着的时候越来越兴奋。

此外,as 还能和 soon 及另一个 as 一起构成短语连词 as soon as (一……就)来引导时间状语从句,起强调作用。例如:

He started as soon as he re-ceived the news. 他一听到消息就立刻动身了。

注:(1)时间状语从句和条件状语从句中表示将来的动作,按英语习惯不用一般将来时,而用一般现在时。如果是表示过去将来的动作,则要用一般过去时,不用一般过去将来时。

(2) as , when , while 引导时间状语从句的区别在于:用as的复合句,主句和从句的动作往往几乎同时发生;用when的复合句,主句和从句动作可能同时发生,也可能是主句的动作发生在从句的动作之后;用while的复合句,强调主句和从句的动作同时发生。

二、as引导原因状语从句,相当于since, seeing that (因为,既然)。例如:

As he is a party member, he is always strict with him-self. 因为他是党员,所以他总是严格要求自己。

注:as 表示原因与 because, since 和 for 表示原因时的区别主要有以下两点:

(1)就语气说, as 比 because, since 都要轻些,四个词中以 because 的语气最强, for 最弱,而且在 for 面前要用逗号。

(2)就句子分类来说,for 是并列连词,它所在的句子是并列句,其他三个是从属连词,它们所在的句子是复合句。

此外,在回答 why 的问题时,只用 because。

三、 as 引导一个比较状语从句,用在 as ...as , not so/as...as 的结构中,意思是“像……一样”。这类从句,一般是不完全句,从句中一些成分没有表示出来。例如:

It is as easy as ABC. 这件事极其容易。

四、 as 引导一个方式状语从句,意思是“如”、“像”。例如:

Do it as I do it . 照我的样子做这件事。

看看这个句子: She cant cook like her mother does. (她的烹饪技术不如她母亲。)在正式场合,这种用法被认为是不正确的。因为只有 as 才能引导一个从句。不过 like 的这种用法已逐渐被人们接受。

此外,as还能与if或though构成短语连词as if或as though (好像,犹如)来引导方式状语从句。例如:

He speaks English as if/though he were an English-man.他说起英语来就像个英国人似的。

注:as if 或 as though 引导的方式状语从句的谓语动词通常要用虚拟语气。

五、as 引导条件状语从句,由 as 与 long 和另一个 as 构成短语 as long as。as long as 引导的状语从句,有两种情况:一种表示时间,另一种表示条件。例如:

(1) You shall never enter the house as long as I live in it. 在我住在这里的时候,你休想进入这个房子。

(2) You can do what you like as long as you dont break the law. 你可以随意行事,只要你不违法。

六、as引导让步状语从句,相当于although开头的句子,其用法有以下六种结构形式,它通常将所强调的成分置于as从句之首。

1.形容词+as从句。例如:

Young as he is , he knows a lot . 他虽然年轻,但知道得多。

2.副词+as从句。例如:

Hard as she studied, she still failed. 虽然她学习努力,但她仍然没有通过考试。

3.-ed 分词+ as 从句。例如:

Disabled as he is , he tries his best to serve the people. 虽然他残废了,但还是尽最大努力为人民服务。

4.-ing 分词 (+名词或副词)+ as 从句。例如:

Raining hard as it is , I am going out for a walk. 虽然正在下大雨,但我还是要出去散步。

5.名词 + as 从句,一般省略名词前的冠词。例如:

Child as he is , he can do it.他虽然是个孩子,但能做那件事。

6.动词(+名词)+ as 从句,特别是句中有 may , will , would , might 等时。例如:

Try as he would, he coudnt work out the problem. 他虽然努力了,仍然解不出那道难题。

以上是对 as 所引导的时间、原因、比较、条件、方式和让步等状语从句进行的例析和归纳。这些状语从句在英语中比较常见,结构比较复杂,故给学习带来一定的难度。在英语学习过程中,我们若认真注意本文所论述过的内容和要领,将会大大地提高对as 所引导的多种状语从句的综合运用能力。
