一、加强英语写作的基础训练———汉译英

高中英语教学实践证明, 写好单句是提高英语写作能力的关键,单句训练最基本、最有效的方法是汉译英训练。汉译英训练不仅能帮助学生巩固词汇、语法、固定搭配及特殊句型等,还能让学生通过亲身体验,认识与了解汉英语言的差异,掌握地道的英语写作。

1.重视基本句型在汉译英练习中的重要作用 。

英语“主-谓-(宾)”或“主-系-表”结构是最基本、最常用的句型。这种句式虽然单一,但给学生进行带有修饰拓展(定语、状语、补语等)句子的汉译英练习奠定了基础。多种成分并存的句子词语丰富,更符合语言表达的习惯,也是高三阶段汉译英训练的主要句式,但繁杂的修饰及拓展也增加了英语表达的难度。因此,进入备考阶段,教师要特别强调基本句式在汉译英练习中的重要作用,训练学生如何在冗长复杂的句子中快速而又准确地找出“主-谓-(宾)”或“主-系-表”结构,化“难”为“易”。如:被困在煤矿里两天的矿工们最后得到了营救。“主-谓-(宾)”:矿工们(miners)得到营救(get/be rescued)。剩下的修饰与拓展 :“被困在煤矿里两天”修饰矿工们 ,根据英语语言习惯,应放在所修饰语的后面。那么,句子即可译为:The miners who had been trapped in the miner for two daysgot/were rescued in the end. 这样 , 一个学生们熟悉的定语从句便跃然纸上。再如:我的愿望是将来有一天能住上自己一直梦想的那种带花园的房子。这是学生眼中典型的“长难”句,但经过提炼基本句式“主-谓-(宾)”或“主-系-表”,译出这样的句子就不再是难题。此句主句为一个“主-系-表”结构:(我的)愿望是……在表语部分又可以提炼出一个“主-谓-(宾)”结构:(我) 能住上别墅。在这个结构中,“自己一直梦想”和“带花园”修饰限定“房子”,即为定语。前者可以处理为从句作定语(定语从句)或非谓语动词作定语,后者可以用“with”短语表达,“将来”和“有一天”都作了时间状语。经过这样的提炼分析,学生就不难翻译此句:My wish is that,one day in thefuture,I can live in the house with a garden (that)I myself alwaysdream of.这样的汉译英练习 ,不仅使学生对“长句”不再“敬而远之”,而且改掉了学生将语法学习从语言学习中割裂出来的弊病,真正实现了学以致用,达到了语言学习的目的,增强了英语表达的信心。

2.尝试多样化的翻译 ,追求最佳表达方式 。

高考英语书面表达要求“行文流畅,表达丰富,避免逐字逐条翻译”,这就要求教师在备考训练中,注重培养学生一句多译、选择最佳表达方式的能力。通过高一、高二的学习,学生对倒装句、强调句、There be句型、定语从句、what引导的名词性从句等重点句型有所了解。在汉译英的训练中,教师要鼓励学生突破单一句式, 尝试多样化的表达方式, 使句子生动活泼、结构紧凑。如:房子前面有一条小溪,小溪上有一座木桥,木桥下有一艘小船,船上坐着一个大约10岁的小孩。本段话如果按照正常语序翻译,就成了“There be”句型的罗列,这样的翻译过于单一,显得单调乏味。如果训练学生用倒装与定语从句,效果就完全不一样:In front of the house runs a small brook ,on which there is a wooden bridge,under the bridge lies a boat inwhich sits a small boy about ten years old. 另外 , 翻译诸如“一……就……/刚……就…… ”等汉语句子 , 完全可以用“hardly/no sooner”引起的倒装句替代“as long as...或the moment...”的常规翻译,使句子更灵活。如:我刚到火车站,火车就开走了。Hardly had I got to the station when the train left.

二、激发兴趣,多写勤练,循序渐进

英语书面表达历来是学生英文学习的一个瓶颈,一些学生对英语写作有畏惧心理。鉴于此,高三阶段首先要根除学生这种“害怕写、不想写”的思想。要帮助学生树立信心,增强自信,高三备考前期,选择学生感兴趣的话题练习写作。不要限制学生的思维,给予学生发挥的空间,鼓励学生“畅所欲言”。也可以要求学生将每天所学的重点单词、短语及句型串起来编故事,激发学生的写作兴趣。同时要加大写作的频率,做到课课有句子,天天有段落,周周有作文。通过多写勤练,让“写”变成学生每天学习英语的一种习惯,然后循序渐进,一步一步向高考作文的要求迈进。

三、加强课堂限时写作训练,创新评价和批改方式

高考是对学生综合能力的检测,要求在规定时间内完成相应的内容。因此,限时写作训练在高三备考阶段尤为重要。不论是开放作文还是控制写作,都应该给学生限定时间(2025钟 )。这种不断的限时训练 ,既是学生个人写作能力的提高 ,又是高考选拔的能力要求。此外,还要创新评价和批改方式。新课程的评价观要求教师在评价学生的学习成果时注重过程评价,促进学生发展,作文批改更要如此。高三阶段,教师应从有利于学生发展的角度评价学生, 把评价定位在激励学生进步和发展上,而不是只注重语言的准确性。写作批改方式可以灵活多样,可以面批、自批,也可以同伴互批。

定语从句

从语法上来看,定语从句绝对是高中阶段的重点和难点,在高考单选中多以考查关系词选择的形式出现。很多考生在做单选时可以利用一定的方法或技巧做出正确选择,但是在写英语作文时,考生往往没有写定语从句的意识,即便有意识也不知如何下手,导致写出的从句错误百出。其实要想写出定语从句,大家只需要抓住该句型的两个关键成分即可:一是先行词,二是关系词。因为关系词的作用就是替代主句中的先行词,在从句中充当相应的成分,这也就意味着我们可以把定语从句还原成含有重复词语(组)的两个简单句,而且这样的重复词语(组)在写作中多为名词或名词性短语。因此要想写定语从句,首先要保证两个简单句有重复词语(组)。下面笔者就来介绍如何将含有重复词语(组)的两个简单句合成定语从句。

1. 合并法

【使用条件】写作要点中有重复词语(组)

【例题】(2010年新课标卷)假设你是育才中学学生会主席李华。你校将举办一次英语演讲比赛(speech contest),希望附近某大学的外籍教师Smith女士来做评委。请参照以下比赛通知给她写一封信。

英语演讲比赛

主题:人与自然

时间:6月15日下午2:00~5:00

地点:501教室

参赛选手:10名学生

联系人:李华(电话44876655)

【分析】首先阅读题干,题干中没有直接出现重复词语(组),但是稍加分析不难发现,在描述主题时,肯定会多次出现“演讲比赛”,比如,“我校将举办一场演讲比赛,演讲比赛的主题是人与自然,演讲比赛在什么时间什么地点举行”。除此之外,“主题:人与自然”这个要点与“参赛选手:10名学生”也可以说成“演讲比赛的主题是人与自然,10名学生将讨论这个主题”。只要确定写作要点中可以出现两个含有重复词语(组)的句子,我们就能通过三步写出定语从句。

【步骤】第一步:把两个句子翻译成英语简单句,并划出重复词语(组)。以我们刚刚分析过的要点为例:

①The topic of this contest is "Man and Nature".

②Ten students will talk about "Man and Nature".

第二步:确定主句和从句,将从句的重复词语(组)用对应关系词替换并提至从句句首。在确定主句和从句时,考生只需要根据中文构思判断合成后的句子主要想表达哪个要点,含有该要点的句子就是主句。在用对应关系词替换时,考生需要了解关系代词和关系副词的基本用法。一般来说,看到重复词语(组)指物时用关系代词which来替换,指人时用关系代词who来替换,表示时间时则用关系副词when来替换。按照这个步骤和前面分析部分的构思,句子①为我们主要想表达的内容,那么句子②即为从句,将从句中的重复词语“Man and Nature”用对应关系词which替换后变为:

第三步:将替换后的从句作为整体置于主句重复词语(组)后面。按照该步骤,将句子③置于句子①的重复词语后变为:

这样一个完整的定语从句就形成了。需要注意的是,在进行对应关系词替换时,如果从句的重复词语(组)为时间、地点名词且前面有介词时,需要将介词一并替换为关系副词,如:

主句:The contest will be held on June 15.

从句:Ten students will discuss the topic from 2 o'clock to 5 o'clock on June 15.

替换后的从句:when ten students will discuss the topic from 2 o'clock to 5 o'clock.

合并后的句子:The contest will be held on June 15 when ten students will discuss the topic from 2 o'clock to 5 o'clock.

2. 拆分法

【使用条件】修饰成分中有主谓短语

【例题】(2010年重庆卷)假设你是李华,于2010年6月3日搭乘国外某航空公司航班(flight number BA793)回国后,发现遗失了一个行李箱(suitcase)。现请用英文给该航空公司写一封信,请他们帮你寻找。

信件要点包括:

·陈述写信原因

·简要描述该行李

·说明其重要性

·期待回复并表示感谢

【分析】题目中讲到李华在飞机上遗失了一个行李箱,要求考生在信件中说明行李箱的重要性。审题后很多考生可以构思出这样一个汉语句子—“这个行李箱是我妈妈送给我的生日礼物”,但在用英文表达时却很少有考生会用定语从句来表达。在中文表达中,我们除了用简单句以外,还经常会在句中添加一些修饰成分。如果修饰成分是简单的形容词、副词等,我们直接翻译成对应的英文。但修饰成分若是一个主谓短语且主谓短语后有一个“的”(如上面句子中的“我妈妈送给我的”),我们就可以把“的”后面的被修饰语(一般为名词或名词短语)进行拆分,然后写成定语从句。具体步骤如下。

【步骤】第一步:在中文语境下,把被修饰语拆分到两个完整的句子中去,然后再翻译成英文。以上面分析部分构思的句子为例进行如下拆分:

①这个行李箱是我的生日礼物。(The suitcase was my birthday present.)

②我妈妈送生日礼物给我。(My mother gave me a birthday present.)

第二步:确定主句和从句,将从句的重复词语(组)用对应关系词替换并提至从句句首。经过第一步的拆分和翻译,两个含有重复词语(组)的句子就出现在我们眼前,接下来的步骤和“合并法”第二步一样,确定从句并进行关系词替换。Birthday present指物,所以用关系代词which替换后变为:

③which my mother gave me.

第三步:将替换后的从句作为整体置于主句重复词后面。将①中的英文句子和句子③合并后变成:

④The suitcase was my birthday present which my mother gave me.

另外,我们还可以再添加一些信息,比如在句尾加上时间状语从句变成:

⑤The suitcase was my birthday present which my mother gave me when I was 18 years old.

含非谓语动词的句子

非谓语动词是高考“出镜率”最高的语法考点之一,也是较难掌握的一个知识点。要是考生能在写作中写几个含有非谓语动词的句子,相信会给作文部分加分不少。鉴于此,下面笔者介绍一种方法来帮助大家写出含非谓语动词的句子。该方法要分两步来进行。

1. 写出原因/条件状语从句,注意主从句主语保持一致

原因和条件状语从句是考生非常熟悉的两类从句,写起来比较容易,只要分析前后句对应的逻辑关系,在从句前加上because/if就可以。之所以选择这两种状语从句,是因为我们在写作时,为了扩充要点,经常会添加一些成分,其中最常添加的是原因和条件。以前面2010年新课标卷的写作题为例,我们可以写出以下两个句子:

①If you have any questions about this contest, you can call me at 44876655.

②Because you are respected as an outstanding foreign teacher, you have been invited to be a judge in our contest.

2. 判断从句的语态(主动/被动),按照对应的公式进行变化

【主动公式】If/Because +主+谓+其他→谓语动词ing形式+其他

上面句子①中的从句为主动语态,我们按照上述公式来变化一下这个句子。

变化前:If you have any questions about this contest, you can call me at 44876655.

变化后:Having any questions about this contest, you can call me at 44876655.

【被动公式】If/Because +主+ be +过去分词+其他→过去分词+其他

上面句子②中的从句为被动语态,我们按照上述公式来变化一下这个句子。

变化前:Because you are respected as an outstanding foreign teacher, you have been invited to be a judge in our contest.

变化后:Respected as an outstanding foreign teacher, you have been invited to be a judge in our contest.

经过上面两个步骤,状语从句就华丽变身为非谓语动词短语。这么一看,非谓语动词是不是也没有大家想象中的那么难呢?

高考写作虽然不要求一味使用复杂句型,但考生若是能在作文中写出一两句含定语从句、非谓语动词(短语)这样的句子,相信一定会让作文增色不少,也更有助于拿到高分。
