词汇是语言的基本材料,也可以说是语言的建筑材料。词汇掌握量的多少不但直接影响语言表达能力的强弱,而且还影响着语言表达的准确性,甚至词汇量还影响着学生在学习、生活等各方面的能力。由此可见,单词教学在整个英语教学中的地位是非常重要的,教师需要抓好英语单词教学。
一、根据小学生的认知特点,运用直观教学法
直观教学法是指采用图片、实物、玩具和幻灯片等一系列辅助教具以及手势、动作和表情开展新词教学的手段。
1. 图片演示
小学英语中,大部分的单词是形象单词,表示具体的事物,而且《牛津小学英语》教材每册都配备了单词卡片,卡片的题材以卡通为主,符合小学低年级学生的心理特点,能够吸引他们的注意力。
2. 实物演示
真实地将物体展示到学生的面前,让学生在视觉和触觉上真实地感受事物。例如,在3A的单词教学中,我讲banana一词时就采用了实物教学,直接向学生呈现香蕉,然后向学生示范读音,不用向学生解释单词的中文意义,学生很直观地感受到我所讲的单词就是香蕉。这个时候,学生的注意力相当集中,他们眼睛看到的实物和他们耳朵听到的单词,吸引着他们自觉地跟读这个单词,同时在他们的头脑中自动翻译成中文“香蕉”。
3. 幻灯片演示
随着小学教学设备的更新, 投影仪在英语教学中的使用日渐普及。单一的出示图片,势必会让单词教学陷入单一模式,使学生产生认知疲劳;实物演示也有局限性,毕竟不是所有的物品都是可以带到课堂中来的。此时,多媒体教学资源给英语教学注入了新的活力,课件的运用综合了“视、听、说”三方面的教学模式,实现了英语课堂上学生积极参与、口脑并用、和谐高效、主动发展。
二、设计多样化单词教学,激发小学生的学习兴趣
1. 歌曲教学法
新课程标准要求课前实施“五个一”,一分钟歌曲就是其中的一个“一”。一首简单的英文歌曲可以提供给学生一个良好英语课堂的气氛,对于小学低年级学生,蹦蹦跳跳,唱唱玩玩就是他们的天性。牛津小学英语教材的课后歌曲都和本单元的教学内容有关,如果是在进行单元教学之前欣赏歌曲可以达到预习的作用,如果是在单元教学之后欣赏歌曲则有巩固的作用。
2. 儿歌教学法
低年级的学生年龄小,他们童心未泯,把一些枯燥的知识编在韵律诗或儿歌中,再套上孩子们喜爱而熟悉的曲调与韵味,能够提高他们学习英语的兴趣。根据教学内容,选取这些趣味性强、节奏清晰和朗朗上口的儿歌来帮助学生记忆单词,不失为一种好的教学方法。
3. 简笔画教学法
教师要充分调动学生的学习积极性,提高学习效率,并且现代教育理念提倡学科整合,简单的绘画可以将美术与英语学科结合起来。借用简笔画教新单词,可以加强学生的直观形象记忆。同时,学生动手画画可以让他们在愉快的过程中,完成单词的记忆和理解。
三、趣味性的巩固方法,可以达到事半功倍的效果
1. 善于对比、寻找规律
三、四年级初学英语,又没有音标的基础,使得他们记忆单词更加困难。因此,让学生比较新旧单词,用旧知识引出新知识总结单词发音规律。比如,我在教学but这个单词的时候,用bus这个词引入,学生很快就能将but这个新单词读出来。利用这种比较的形式,可以让学生自己寻找规律,总结单词发音,达到巩固单词的目的。
2. 触类旁通,层层深入
联想记忆教学是让学生结合已有的知识,理解新单词,这种方式有助于学生把单词记牢。比如:classroom(教室)=class(课)+room(室),pencilbox(铅笔盒)=pencil(铅笔)+box(盒子)等。再比,如由fruit可以让学生联想到apple, orange, banana等其他水果类单词。通过词汇之间的联想,把属于同样一类的单词放在一起来记,会使学生感到学习是件很轻松的事,从而达到积累、巩固单词的目的。
3. 词不离句,句不离境
单词教学不能是独立的,要在学习中创设真实的情景,使小学生产生身临其境的感觉。例如,在教授4BUnit 4 Fruit这一单元时的A部分时,我就做了一个果园的课件,让学生好像来到了四处飘满果香的果园。这为之后的对话练习,打下了良好的环境基础。在这样一个能听、能看、能感受的情景中,学生主动地参与到对话中,在交际中学到了知识。
4. 丰富多彩的课后作业
枯燥的单词抄写一般都会引起学生的反感,不少学生只是为了应付差事而机械性地抄写,根本不经过思考,就更不要提记忆单词了。小学英语作业不能只局限于抄写字母、单词等机械性的作业,应拓展思维,布置一些趣味性强的作业,拓宽英语课堂。如当一回小老师,回家把今天学到的单词教给爸爸妈妈;用学习到的单词,把家的家具贴上英语标签,每天念一遍;到超市的时候,看看能叫出哪些水果的名字等等。这些作业都会让学生感到新奇、有趣,当他们圆满完成后也就在不知不觉中巩固了课堂所学,而且还会充满成就感,这种成就感在今后的学习中会极大地鼓舞他们的学习热情。
总之,教学有法,教无定法。在新课程标准的要求下,一个成功的小学英语教师只有不断地寻找和发现新的教学方法,才能在单词教学中培养学生持久的兴趣,才能使学生善学、会学,学而忘我,乐此不疲,使英语学习形成一个良性循环。
